Terms and refunds

01Accounts

Accounts are created by signing in with Apple or Google; we store the email address and name your provider shares (and avatar, if provided). You are responsible for activity on your account and for keeping access to your sign-in provider account secure. One account is for one person. We may suspend or terminate accounts that abuse the service, attempt to circumvent licensing, or break these terms.

02Price and payment

johTalk is free to download. Dictating with it needs a licence, sold as a one-time purchase at the price shown before checkout (currently $5.99 in US dollars). There is no subscription and nothing renews.

Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see your card details. Prices may change for future purchases. A licence you have already bought is not affected by a later price change.

03Your johTalk licence

johTalk is licensed, not sold. Buying it gives you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use johTalk on up to 3 computers at a time, linked to your account, for your own use (including your work). The licence has no end date. You can move it to another computer by signing an old one out on your account page.

johTalk checks your licence from time to time and pairs each computer with your account; interfering with that check ends the licence. You may not resell, share, sublicense or reverse engineer johTalk, except where the law expressly allows it.

Updates are included as we release them. We don't promise any particular future feature, or that every future version will support every system that runs johTalk today.

04Refunds

30 days, no questions asked. If johTalk isn't right for you, email joh@johflow.com within 30 days of your purchase, from the email address of your account, and we refund the full price to your original payment method. Once refunded, the licence ends and johTalk locks again on your computers.

This promise is in addition to any rights you have under consumer law, such as the right of withdrawal for consumers in the European Union.

05Speech engines and API keys

Cloud engines are services of third parties (such as OpenAI, ElevenLabs and Google, or a server you choose). You use them with your own account and API key, under their terms and at their prices; we are not responsible for their availability, results or charges. Local engines run models published by third parties under their own licences. Speech recognition makes mistakes: check important text before you send it.

06The service can change

This is a one-person studio shipping actively. Features may be added, changed or removed, and the website and licence service are provided without an uptime guarantee. We choose what to build and when to release it. Where a change materially reduces what you paid for within the refund period, you can ask for a refund under the Refunds section.

07Your data stays yours

johTalk runs on your computer. What you dictate stays there, or goes to the cloud provider you chose. We claim no rights over anything you create with it, and ending your licence or deleting your account never deletes anything on your computer.

08Other apps on your JohFlow account

Your account also works with our other apps: JohData (desktop and iPhone) and FlowSim (iPhone). These terms apply to them too, except the sections about the johTalk licence, its price and its refund, which are about johTalk only.

Subscriptions and purchases inside the iPhone apps are made through Apple's App Store and are also subject to Apple's terms. Apple handles their billing, renewal, cancellation and refunds: manage or cancel them in your Apple account's subscription settings, and ask Apple for a refund. A JohFlow subscription bought on this website before October 2026 continues under the terms you accepted when you bought it until it is cancelled; email us to cancel it.

09Liability

We are liable without limit for intent, gross negligence, and injury to life, body or health. For simple negligence we are liable only for breach of essential contractual obligations, limited to the foreseeable damage typical for this kind of contract. Any further liability is excluded. Free Software is provided as-is to the fullest extent the law allows. Nothing in these terms limits rights that consumer law grants you and does not allow us to exclude.

10Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. For material changes, account holders are notified by email at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Changes never take away a licence you have already bought.

11Governing law

German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, the mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence remain unaffected.
